    Your Opinions Please

    Hi Guys (and gals),

Further to my posting about my camera shutting down on me, I have started looking at armour and weatherproofing.

One member posted a couple of links to accessories that would be helpful.

I have started looking at the SNUG IT PRO for my EOS 600D, what are your opinions, pro's and con's please?

Body armour protects the camera from knocks and to some extent keeps water and condensation away. BUT ... you really need a weatherproof lens. The armour doesn't help you here.

My 40D has been wearing its armour for quite a while now. Its a faff to put on ... so it stays on. But it has a 17-40L attached which is weatherproofed (well when a filter is attached).

I also carry a couple of microfibre rags (one for me and one for camera) so you can keep things reasonable 'dry'. You also need something waterproof to keep the kit in when its not in use.

I have thought about getting a Hands Free Umbrella.

I've done a bit of snapping in the wet.
I find if it's ranining heavy enough, your hands and fingers get drenched, it's easy transfer the water to the camera buttons.

A cheap tip is to carry a towel face cloth to dry your hands.

I must take a photo of mine. I bought it as a joke, but it actually works. You'll know what I mean when you see a picture.

The image looks quite cumbersome. Why don't you ask Swambo to hold the umbrella for you? I am sure she would love to oblige!!

Yes I recall seeing a chap in The Lakes with an Ebony (5x4" camera [I asked] on a cinema style tripod) ... his little helper had a huge brollie and he had one attached to the tripod. That's taking landscape stuff very serious.

Another item I've seen used is this ... Páramo Dark Cloth ... given I swear by Páramo gear I should really get one of these.

I like that very much. I might go for one myself.

I wonder if he took some pictures as he slid into the water?

He will be OK - he has an auto inflating lifeboat in his backpack - always wondered why his sandwiches weighted 40kg. Not sure whether his gas stove will survive though :)

                              Hi guys,

following on from my other posts regarding my camera and the damage/repairs.

I have been instructed to remove the posts and let Canon investigate the issues and complaints against A.J Johnstone now.

Until I get my camera back, I cannot comment further on that issue but I can say that it is under investigation due to the fact that the staff at A.J.Johnstone have misled me throught the entire repair process. but please see the attached link....... says enough there with them reviews! canon have been shown this site too!
