I believe the main difference between CF cards and SD cards, apart from their physical size, used to be that CF cards were far more technically advanced i.e, superior read/write speeds and greater storage capacity. Compact cameras and entry level DLSRs therefore used SD whilst more advanced DSLRs used CF. The technology has moved on and now SD cards appear to have caught up having equal capability in terms of speed and capacity and many high end DSLRs now take both types of card.
Are CF cards days numbered? Or am I missing something?
I find it frustrating that I have to pay almost 3 times the amount for CF cards for my 7D compared to an SD card of equal specification:-
SanDisk 16GB Extreme Pro 95MB/Sec SDHC Card £39
SanDisk Extreme Pro 16GB 600x UDMA CF £99
Also all pc manufacturers including Apple appear to have SD card slots built in but not CF! Even the latest IMacs, which I am soon to purchase, have an SD slot but no CF.
