    Air Blowers- help please

Living on the little island of Menorca my options for specialised camera sensor cleaning are non-existent.
Last time I was in UK I took my 650D to a decent camera shop but the guy said the sensor was "not too bad" and he didn't recommend having it done. However, a month later I can see a couple of small spots and a small hair which I presume are on the sensor as they are still there on changing the lens, even though I'm not getting anything obvious on my pictures.
I lack courage to clean the sensor myself so that's not going to happen!
I have seen air blowers on Amazon such as the Polaroid and the Giottos and am wondering if this is an option you guys have used, and if you would recommend them. If so hints and tips in usage please.
    Many thanks in advance.

Rocket Blower for me - The Giottos. I have one and it keeps my 7D pretty much pristine with no other intervention.

I bought a sensor cleaning kit for my 500D but never needed or used it. A Giottos Rocket blower and a Lenspen were all it needed. Don't use the lens pen on the sensor - just the lenses.

OK so reading this again, I suggest they're likely to either be on your mirror or on the focussing screen and not your sensor. If they were on your sensor, you'd see them on your pictures and not in the viewfinder. What you seem to be saying, to me anyway, is that you see them in the viewfinder but not on your pictures.

If that is the case then a) don't worry about them but do get something like a Rocket Blower to blow them out as they can be annoying and b) don't put anything in your mirror box other than a blast of air from a Rocket Blower as you could make it a lot worse. I didn't follow b) and ended up with so much crud behind my focusing screen I had to upgrade to a 7D to eradicate it - it rendered the 600D I was using unusable to me because of the dirt I embedded under the focussing screen.

When you get the blower, whichever type you go for, hold the camera, without lens obviously, facing downwards - with the screen facing upwards - and blow air up into it onto the mirror and screen. That way anything you dislodge will fall out of the mirror box rather than hanging around and getting onto the sensor. That will be annoying. Repeat with your lenses just in case something has got into the rear element or mount.

I get the odd spot of dust on the mirror/screen of my 7D as I change lenses quite frequently but a couple of quick puffs soon removes them all...

Andy, on my 550D (which I think is similar) replacement of the focussing screen was an inexpensive job. I can't remember exactly but less than £50.

That's useful to know. I don't suppose you can recall who did it for you?

Thank you all for your replies, and in particular Andy M for your most helpful comments.
I have ordered a Giottos rocket blower and will follow instructions carefully.
                  Thanks folks!

                    Hi Andy,

Being somewhat OCD I have the invoice! The screen itself cost £20, fitting, cleaning, and a sensor clean £45.
                    From Camera Repair Direct, Cranleigh.

I need the camera back quickly, so I dropped it off & picked it up myself, so no carriage.
