Bean Bag filling - advice please

A couple of months back i won a comp on another forum the prize for which was a tee shirt and a monster beanbag. After 2 months they finally arrived today and the question is what do i fill em'with ? - not the tee shirt that will be filled with me but the bean bag. I have heard rice can be used but what type or any other suggestions

Dried peas or polystyrene balls are two suggestions I have been told.

Thats an idea - its a big bag so something like rice would be very heavy

Polystyrene balls Stan. Fill to about 80% full so you can "snuggle" the lens into a good shape.

In Africa, the one's I used in the Landrover were beans, or dried peas and they were heavy. Strangely, none of them ever 'disappeared' when the guests left!

Maybe they have posted the balls/beans separately ? A monster beanless bag seems like a funny prize !

My bean bag was full of polystyrene balls these I thought were too light...I thought about dried peas and other pulses, and was afraid if they get wet they might start going soggy.
So..I went to a local plastic factory and beged for some plastic pelets these are great .and take the shape of anything I place on it..with no fear of them cooking.
The extra weight holds the tripod down when needed.

Re: Bean Bag filling - advice please

It is quite a big bag around 18 inches long so it takes a lot of filling - I had some polystyrene balls so have used them to start with and see if it works. I think maybe anything else is going to be too heavy to carry around with all the kit as well

Maybe they have posted the balls/beans separately
I did buy a smaller bag a while ago and if I remember rightly there was the choice to have it filled or unfilled

They were generally always filled when the post office only charged for parcels by weight, now they also charge by bulk.

I had noticed that too - dont know why.
to be honest I would have expected it to come filled but Colins explanation makes sense

I find that on some threads too.

I suspct that it may be something to do with how the original poster's options are ticked .............. or not!
