    Extension Tubes.

    I'm considering some extension tubes...

I've seen the Kenko ones, but I've also seen some Unbranded, Jessops and other manufacturer's ones which are Auto focus.

Does anyone know anything about them. The most I know is that there is no lens inside, does the "make" make a difference?

    Also...

I read on the Kenko ones, that they can't be used with the 18-55 lens that I have, does anyone know if I can definately use them with the 50-250 lens I have?

    And also...

If I decide against the extension tubes. What is the cheapest/reasonable performance macro lens (any make) that fits the EOS 500D.

Sorry lots of questions. Any help appreciated

    Re: Extension Tubes.

As long as they are "Automatic", they should be ok.

You need the communication between the body, extension tubes and lens to ensure the camera can meter correctly. Auto focus is not so important, as you will probably be in manual focus., but the fact that they can autofocus means that the communication is there.

      Re: Extension Tubes.

I have the Kenko extension tubes which work well on my kit, on the Kenko site the do say don't use them on lenses below 50mm focal length therefore I am guessing that they probably wont work on your short zoom. I can say that the do work on my 70-300 and at long end of my 24-105 zoom lenses so I would think that you would be OK with the 50-250

I have the Jessops ones and they work fine FWIW.

Thanks for your help. Now merrily off shopping and deciding how much money I'm going to splurge.
