Re: Glencoe from across Loch Leven
Can't see any noise but there are some very odd blank (there's no other word for it) patches in the clouds though - they don't look blown out, they look as though the image data has just disappeared....Nigel

Re: Glencoe from across Loch Leven
Thanks Patrick
Yes, I'm afraid there is a bit of noise in the sky plus some burning in the cloud but I thought the rest of the scene worth sharing. The problem I have - and one I've voiced many times - is that when I travel to these stunning locations it's by motorcycle and I simply don't have the space for one of my DSLRs so I have to rely on my now aging Powershot G10. While it is capable of decent images under favourable conditions it lacks the dynamic range needed for shots where the sky is bright but the land in shadow as per here. The camera's processor is now outdated and far too slow for a hand-held bracketed set for HDR hence less than ideal results such as this one.
I fully intend buying something more up to date before my next trip but just what has me baffled so I think a discussion on this will be the subject of a more focussed post.
Cheers,

I've just had a quick look and see that I have no noise reduction set but, while introducing it does reduce the noise in the sky, it also makes the hills soft. I think what I'll do, as I believe the image is worth persevering with, is to create layers and do it in PS. Watch this space

Re: Glencoe from across Loch Leven
Nice, John, like that very much. Great sky and lovely texture in the water.
