    iPad3 uploading photos?

Anyone using an ipad and camera connector for uploading photos, such as when on holiday?
Been looking at getting an ipad but a review said the camera connector struggles with big files from SLRs. Any views on this, please.

Does it have to be an iPad?

This is something I've thought about doing, but with my Android tablet rather than an iPad. I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, but with only 16gb of storage it's fairly limited. Perhaps I should have bought the 32gig version, but at the time I didn't have an interest in photography. I do have Box and Dropbox cloud storage installed, so I may be able to make use of those apps.

I've just ordered a cheap USB OTG host cable from ebay, that should allow me to connect the camera to the Tab. http://bit.ly/JpuBAB and I'm going to try this photo backup app too. http://bit.ly/JpuIMG The immediate downside to the app appears to be that it resizes the images. Hmmm.

I have an iPad 2 and the CCK and with my 40D RAW's no issues. I have used both the USB cable and also SD card (in a CF convertor) without issue. My CCK is a cheap eBay jobbie from China and it works fine with everything I have thrown at it even a USB card reader which isn't supposed to work does. The only issue is one of memory on an iPad, it is great for viewing the images but does lack storage so for long term use of storing photos IMHO it isn't suitable.

No problems with my iPad2, the Apple CCK and RAW files from my 550D. Great for reviewing the day's shooting. If they are just going on to Flickr or email to friends then I use the Snapseed app to make any quick adjustments and then send them.

          Thank all,
          Reassuring so far.
I was just thinking in terms of viewing pics while away from home rather than long term storage. 32 gigs won't go very far!

I am using the Canon 1D Mark IV and am very keen in to but the IPAD3. What I really wanted to know has anyone used the Adobe Touch App. As a professional I want to upload the images onto the Ipad and than apply what ever changes that are needed & then caption them, which I am not sure how it is going to work on the App and than forward to my editor.

Pics from camera to iPad works well, even RAW. god for short term due to limited memory.

I have a 5D MKII and have both a SD and CF reader for the iPad 1. Never have a problem uploading images to it.

                    iPad3 uploading photos?

Tom, I too have an iPad and a (third party) card reader which transfers without problem. My question to you is, have you found a way to transfer just JPEG's? All the images appear as "RAW & JPEG" and selecting one will then transfer both copies of the file, I then struggle to determine which is which!

Last time I looked the iPad only handled images up to 19MP, so the 18MP APS cameras are fine but a lot of the Full-Frame cameras (plus my RX100) aren't going to be happy...

.... Unless you do what I do and save images as RAW and 5mp JPEG's, hence my desire to individually download the JPEG's alone.

                          Hi S_J_P,

When I am going to download my images to the iPad, then I will only shoot jpeg. If I shoot raw + jpeg, then I take the Mac Airbook with me w/portable 3TB hard drive to download the images to.

The best way is to travel light not to cary too much gear or laptop, the Apple Ipad or Samsung tab is a much better also memory sticks is much lighter then a 3TB hard drive IMO
