    External Storage

Im hoping that someone can recommend a good reliable external hard drive for me to store my photos on. I had one but it went belly up and I lost hundreds of photos. I know I should have saved them on DVD's also and I will be doing in the future but I do need a good large capacity hard drive. Any suggestions folks?

    Re: External Storage

I have Iomega, WD, Maxtor, Seagate, .... and they are all good. The only one that let me down was a Freecom (I've forgotten who manufactured the physical hard drive in the assembly). The price of 3TB units has recently dropped (I guess as 4TB become available).

You should ideally backup onto one external HDD and then backup that to another. Or get one of these multi-bay boxes with RAID technology.

You could always use a 'Cloud' service.

      External Storage

I backup in my time machine on my mac with a seagate. It's dies backups every hour. Then every month I use another one to back up the whole mac and then store it at work in a secure place.

Just my paranoia as I keep thinking what will I do if my house burns down or one of the drives fail!

        I use a Buffalo 1T, a WD 2T and a Buffalo 2T w/Raid for my External Hard drives.

I also have two external drives, and just back up to both each time. Just in case.
