Dell UltraSharp U2713HM or Asus PB278Q?

I'm just started using LR, especially now it works so well with DxO Optics which tends to be my default RAW processor these days.
But I'm working on a 21.5" display, and I'm not sure if it's my eyesight or not, but I'm finding working in LR almost painful because everything is so small.
I've whittled a replacement for my small BenQ down to these two 27" monitors, and wondered if anyone had any experiences (good or bad) with either of these two :)

Strangely enough, I'm about to go for a new monitor too and my choices boil down to the two you have mentioned as well as the NEC MultiSync EA274WMi. Of course the Apple Thunderbolt is favourite, but that'll need a lottery win before I get that!

Anyway, I'm also interested in people's opinions on these.

Can you not increase the resolution / font size ? after all people use laptops for PP so its not just down to the screen size, maybe just the resolution ??

Although saying all that when I got back into photography the first thing I bought was a 27" screen and I don't know how people cope with smaller screens

Also how come your not using LR as your RAW processor ?

On a smaller display it's probably worth setting the various sidebar and bottom views to auto hide in LR. That way more of the screen real estate is used by the actual image.
I think the Anthony Morganti videos cover this, but I definitely saw this on a YouTube video.
It definitely helped me to have the left hand pane auto hiding.

I can't help with monitor choice though as I use a 27" iMac.

My budget BenQ is running at 1920x1080, and the resolution appears fine, it's just a little small, especially when working with thumbnails. I seemed to be coping OK with DPP and DxO, and maybe it's just the number of small images/thumbnails on the screen with LR?

I went from DPP to DxO as a RAW processor, so tend to use these by default, but DPP obviously does not fit into a LR workflow now. DxO does, and it's something I'm used to, but given more time I may be able to master developing/processing RAW in LR :)

You definitely need to watch videos like Anthony Morganti and others on YouTube, they will show you an easy workflow and also how to automate the workflow if multiple images need the same changes or settings.

I run two Benq 24" GL2450 screens in work and they are absolutely vile compared to my single 27" retina iMac screen at home. It's not even a matter of colour calibration. The BenQ monitors (LED as well) are just a bit muddy looking when editing pics. I know what you mean about LR. I don't think any screen is big enough for it lol

one of my better investments was getting the 27" retina iMac - stunning resolution, as for space for LR I normally reduce it a little ;o)

I bought the U2713HM 18 months ago and have been absolutely delighted with it, ordered from pcbuyit at 11:00am delivered 8:30 am next day I also bought the soundbar that fits to bottom of the monitor which would not suit Hi Fi people but for you tube and Skype is perfectly ok, I run the Adobe photographers package and both Lightroom and Photoshop have plenty of room
One thing if you purchase the Dell I would be interested to know if you ever calibrate it and how, as I have not done so since I bought it

Do you guys get AOC monitors in the UK ?
I have one of these. I got it for it's DisplayPort connection from my laptop,

Well, I plumped for the Asus, primarily because of the price. It's currently going for under £400 on Amazon.
I'll be hooking it up tonight via HDMI, but I must admit to being a little scared at viewing my 8.2MP images at 2K

Just a thought if you use HDMI you will be limited to 1920 resolution but if you use DVI you will get the max resolution from your monitor of 2560
