    Advice Please!!!!!!!!

I've decided that my computer (Desktop & Monitor) like me has seen better days.
Been looking at Pillar and AIO (All in One) Any thoughts?
I use it in the main for video editing and photo's, bit of writing.
Price wise, I accept you get what you pay for.

    Many Thanks
    Trev

The Apple-isti will be along shortly to recommend an iMac closely followed by the Windows advocates recommending you get anything but an iMac!

Without a budget & spec it's difficult to recommend anything specific but IME (as someone who has been a software developer for 35 years) is that get as much RAM as you possibly can. It's a far more effective route to decent performance than the latest & fastest processor. Second, get a decent capacity SSD rather than a spinning disk.

Probably not for you, but FWIW I have a Dell XPS-15 laptop with 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD and Core-i7 processor and would happily recommend one to anyone who is interested in a Windows laptop.

      Re: Advice Please!!!!!!!!

If you are into video and photos there are a few things to look at.
      1. Plenty of RAM 32GB
      2. Fast processor Core i7
      3. SSD + large drive to store ouput
      4. But most important is the screen. I get asked to calibrate lots of devices by members of my camera club. I have not yet found any laptop that produces anywhere near as good results as the mid price monitors.
FYI I worked in IT all my life and have been a very keen photographer for over 50 years and been an active digital exponent since 2002.

        Re: Advice Please!!!!!!!!

Thanks Chris, Alan for your advice much appreciated.
You've both echoed what several friends had advised me, but I thought I would throw it on here.
Apple is completely out, I have Avid Xpress DV and Premiere Pro installed for video editing, don't want to change to Final Cut - too many pennies!!
Already got a small lightweight laptop that I only use if I'm away - e-mails, security, download from camera etc. don't do any processing on it.
        Once again very many thanks

If Dell is an option then it's worth keeping an eye on their Outlet site, which is where I got mine: https://outlet.euro.dell.com

              Re: Advice Please!!!!!!!!

Trouble with AIO pc's is the graphics cards, usually only integrated, therefore not suitable for video editing.

Alan's advice is sound, with the addition of a GFX card, something like the Nvida GTX1060 (for the cuda cores). Also look for M.2 nvme SSD drives, usually 4-5 times faster than traditional SATA ssd's (for os and progs). If you wish to post/pm a budget, we can better suggest a build. Would you do any gaming on it? - How heavy is your video editing, lots of fancy effects or.... (can eat ram)

I have a Scan 3xs range pc and it rocks, they provide pc's to the Queen etc, check out the site and look for some reviews

You can easily tailor them to your needs too, nice touch is it came with a memory stick on velcro inside that had all the software on so you could reinstall from it.

I used to use Dell but found they tended to go off piste in their designs meaning upgrading boards etc could be fraught with difficulties as they used in house items.
