Assitance regarding using advanced settings - EOS1000D

I am a beginner with photography. I saw the tutorials on Canon Australia website and started to experiment. Unfortunately I just cannot click a picture when I use advanced options. I guess the shutter opens and closes only after like 10 seconds. Here are the settings I tried:

    Mode: P ShutterSpeed: 1/15 Aperture: f4.5
    Mode: TV ShutterSpeed: 1/4000 Aperture: f 4.5
Mode: AV ShutterSpeed: 1/30 Aperture: f10
    Mode: M ShutterSpeed: 1/125 Aperture: f5

For all the modes I had kept ISO to 400. I am using 18-55 lens. Any help would be appreciated.

BTW, light meter stays at 0 for all the above settings. So I guess the "magic triangle" is alright.

Just an idea have you got the self timer set on it, that would cause a delay on shutter operation

I can click images normally in other basic modes. I don't have the camera right now with me but I think it's worth checking.

Definitely sounds like you have set the self timer rather than single shot

I checked and I do not have a timer set in any of the modes. Anything else that could be wrong here?

Thanks. I might have accidentally done that. Will check the camera once I am back home.
