I remember back to my old D60 and wouldn't dare go over 400.

Had the 5D3 been the equivalent price in the UK as it is in the US, as in $3,500 or £2,270 give or take a few quid, then Canon would sell thousands more and completely outstrip sales of the 1Dx and the Nikon D800. At £3,000 or $4,700 I think they have totally overpriced it for the UK market and people will wait till it comes down before taking the plunge. I think only the pro sports photographers will need and use the 1Dx and the likes of the general public will be more than pleased with the 5D3.

DrJon, after talking to a friend in Maine who's ordered a 5DMkIII to find the actual cost, he's paid 8% added tax which makes a total of $3,780 which is around £2,380 which is still a difference of over £600. If it comes down to around £2,500 then I might pull the trigger on one, or offer a trade of gripped 7D, gripped 5D2 and Canon 100-400 L for one.

£2270 + VAT is £2724, so not that different (U.S. prices are always quoted without sales tax, but then you can often avoid that tax too). I'm sure it will be a lot less by the end of the year. The 5DmkII RRP is £2299 now but you can get it for £1500-odd.

Already seen it (5D Mk III) for £2 799!
