    Field Charging a 1D iv?

    Hi All,

Never had this problem yet, but I was wondering how others go on charging the 1D iv's battery if for example, you're on holiday and know you're going to be away for a long period and don't have a plug socket for the standard charger?

Is there something about a 1dv that makes it any different from any other camera ??

If not, just proceed as for any camera, buy loads of spare batteries, get a travel adapter for your charger.
Are you going somewhere for a long time that has no electricity ?

      Hi Trevor,

The 1D iv battery is quite different from the other Canon cameras and I've never seen a feild charger specially for it.

        Sorry Neil,

Various Eos cameras have different batteries.
What I'm saying is the solution to not having access to a battery charger is the same for all eos, or any gadget that needs batteries.
Maybe I'm missing something vital, it has been known :-)

One of the problems is the cost ....................... genuine spare batteries are £130 each, so that can limit your options. I bought spares for a Safari where we were living in tents in the bush to keep near the game. As it happened, they ran a generator each day to charge camera and laptop batteries, so it was never a problem. In fairness, the LPE4 has tremendous capacity. At worst I get around 2,500 shots. In good ambient temperature and using energy saving techniques (no chimping, turn IS off etc) I have got nearly 4,500 shots.

I haven't found any field chargers, but I haven't particularly looked. A solar charger with a two pin plug to fit the standard MKIV charger would probably do the trick. You didn't say that there wouldn't be any electricity, so it could be as simple as a universal travel plug.

            Hi Colin,

It was just something I was wondering about - I haven't seen any field chargers for the 1D range at all. Something to worry about if & when the time comes.

Never been an issue for me to be honest tho it's a while since I've been away from power for any length of time and carrying two fully charged batteries normally gives a minimum of 5000 shots - just done a quick google search and found this, though obviously have no idea whether it's any good/actually does the job!
