    EOS 7D Help Please

Can anyone help please, I have tried to enable the VF Display Illumination by C.FN111.8 and via the settings 2 yellow menu but am not getting the AF points or grid lighting up in red. Am I missing something?

The CFN you changed just relates it when it's displayed. always on focus, auto, or off

There's a enable/ disable option. 2 yellow menu from the left - set to enable

Thanks Stephen & Trevor, I have set these already, but the AF points and grid are not lighting up in red.

                Hi Trev

I tried that & it does not work on either of them or AI servo

In C.Fn III (autofocus/drive) (see image below), #8 select "auto" or "enable" (I use auto). then go to ..
Go to menu, 2nd box after the two blue boxes; lcd brightness; date/time/zone etc and come down to VF grid display and select enable, (says disable in pic)

Go to menu, the box immediately before and next to the two blue boxes (see image below), come down to grid display and select grid#1 or grid#2. (says off in pic)

Now look through the viewfinder (VF). It should now display the grid.
I have added this to "My Menu" custom setting (star) so I can turn on/off quickly.

Just been checking the steps as my camera is beside me

                      Yes I see that one
In C.Fn III (autofocus/drive) #8 select "auto". then go to ..
Go to menu, 2nd box after the two blue boxes; lcd brightness; date/time/zone etc and come down to VF grid display and select enable,
I this is a live view specific setting
Go to menu, 1st box before the two blue boxes, come down to grid display and select grid#1 or grid#2.

I must admit I had this camera for several weeks before I used this grid to the max, now I miss it when using the 5Dmk2

                          Re: EOS 7D Help Please

Trev, I got my camera out of the bag and the grid is now working.
                          In C.Fn III (autofocus/drive) #8 select "auto".
I'll check this when disabled .. done.
I have VF grid enabled as in the image #2 and the grid is there.
Using C.Fn III (autofocus/drive) #8 in any mode makes no difference when the grid is enabled.
In liveview the grid is there in all modes.

                            Hi Stephen, mine's working :-)
The only time it doesn't is in AI servo.

That thing Colins asking about displaying the AF points, what is the advantage of that ?

Your right Trev, I misread the post.
I'm not sure what the advantage of displaying the AF point(s) is.
That is something that I do not consciously think about.

To display the AF points in the viewfinder then it is C.Fn III (autofocus/drive) #9 select "display all AF points"
