Re: 70D
The Canon reps at the Rutland Birdfair yesterday wouldn't be drawn on when the next Canon DSLRs (60D and/or 1D Mk IV???) are due to be released.

Re: 70D
Whats wrong with a video camera for taking video and a still camera for taking photographs?
Usually the all singing all dancing versions of most things are similar to the human jack of all trades i.e. not as good as the truly specialised version.

Re: 70D
I have just bought the 50D using Canon's Trade-in offer. I thought that offer was likely to herald a new camera and guessed it would be a 50D with video. They reckon the 50D's 15 meg pixel is as far as you can go with a sensor that size so I did not want to be paying what will likely be a hefty price hike just for video.

Re: 70D
I personally don't like video on camera, anyway upgarade from 50D will be 7D with 18MP APSC CMOS 2, Dual DIGIC 4 , New eight-directional double cross central AF point, total 19 cross AF points, New iFCL metering (exposure and colour).
What I'm really interested is the new canon 100L IS Macro.

Re: 70D
well I hope they drop the 60D back to 12mp, in the same way they reduced the pixel count on the G11. I tried out the 50D and found the noise levels to be very poor as low as ISO 400, which is hopeless for wildlife as my main interest.
The AF system was a big improvement, so you get sharp noisy images. Think they went too far after the 40D.

Re: 70D
I use the 50D and I partially agree with you, though for my purposes, I generally find it is OK up to ISO800. Its advantage is that it is a very 'quick' camera and the focussing is better than than the 5D mk2. A mini 1D really.
A technical article that a read recently, said that using current pixel-pitch, full frame sensors can go up to 33mp and APS-C sensors up to 21mp with current technology. Obviously, the real challenge at the moment is noise reduction. The 5D mk2 is about the best there is for Canon, at the moment. I think it is probably slightly inferior to the Nikon D3 / D700.
