    Took the plunge

After holiday and a bit of pondering have finally ordered this morning:

    5D3 Body
    300 f4L
    1.4 III Ext

Really looking forward to getting the kit, it's going to be a steep learning curve as a lot different from existing 60D.

As I'm stopping working in about 6 weeks plan is to be out and about far more and photography has always been an interest of mine.

So this kit is really an advance on my initial DSLR and plan to do a bit more bird photography.

That's quite a jump. Take your time to learn the capabilities of the camera, then the lens etc. It took me several hundred shots and different situations to "bed in".

Seriously, you've ordered a great setup there

Yep I'm guessing that will be the case. Took me a little while to get fully comfortable with he 60D. The change to digital from film and a long break from 'serious photography' combined to make the process quite intense.

Been reading a bit about 5D3 features etc and defo going to need a bit of time to get up to speed. Quite like the idea of the challenge though.

Was going to hang on for couple more years but company I work for is getting far to officious with DPWR and job tracking (been there and done that many times).

Have really good pension from my ICI days so only expect to be 5-10% worse off than current, despite taking a bit early, which isn't too bad. Feels a bit strange at the moment to think only a short time till I drop out of the grind. Looking forward to being able to say, 'I don't do rush hour!'

Have another smaller pension I can take in 2 years and then in 6 years time the state pension. Starting to feel old now.

                      Re: Took the plunge

I've got 8 years to go until I reach the Mill retirement age but 9 until my govt pension kicks in.
Some guys have worked on after 65 but I certainly won't be doing that (with a bit of luck)
I keep hoping for a redundancy package before then

Had hoped to be made redundant (again) but no luck. Consider myself lucky as of generation where company pensions were quite good and ICI had one of the best.

Don't envy younger people as looks like they will be working till 70+
