Spirit level function - first use.

Used the spirit level function on the 7D for the first time to make sure the camera was being held perfectly vertically for this internal room shot -

It was in a "crazy room", built with floor, walls and ceiling all on a tilt. The idea is to walk through it.... Easier said than done as the info coming from your eyes and the balance part of the ears is so out of sync with expectations that it is difficult not to fall over or feel fairly nauseous....

The room is inside a normal, shed-like building - behind the young lady on the trampoline - in the grounds of the Hotel Erica in Njimegen in Holland. Possible to see the degree of slope through the paint on the wall showing through the right-hand door.

Liked the spirit level function, though - must use it more.

    Cheers, Chris.

I use it on the 5D3 on every landscape shot. Sometimes though, the land isn't really straight lol.

I agree that the land is always "straight"! I use a spirit level on the flash shoe on the camera.

I used that function for the first time last weekend in a studio shoot on my 7D. Enabled me to set it perfectly on the tripod

you just wanted to pretend you were flying a plane ;o) .... I've used it a few times, but I normally give myself enough breathing space to level it

Played with it as a new toy, then immediately forgot about it... I use the focal point pattern in the viewfinder for a guide to straight & level...

Interesting shot Chris; I've seen a couple of these 'funfair' style attractions, and you're right, they are quite nauseous

Fr1so within some cameras there is an information screen which can be displayed that allows the user to ensure their camera is set level (both horizontal and vertical)which I find very useful whilst using a tripod.

Aha, I see. I was reading about the Canon 70D, and in that camera there also that kind of function: base level

For friso - this is a picture of the rear screen of the 7D showing the spirit level in use - the camera is deliberately "out of level" from side to side - shown by the red line not sitting exactly on top of the grey line that runs across the screen. One then has to tilt the camera until the two lines exactly coincide. The other marks are for "front to back" levelling.

Picture not very good as I had to use the little Ixus to shoot the 7D screen.

                      Cheers, Chris.

That kind of function is very handy for me. Because I have always problems with a crooked horizon. In the 70D there also that kind of function, but it has a different name.

                        Chris, thanks!
