    7DII low light AF

    I just been out watching the Barn Owl in a local nest box in conditions that were too dark for any worthwhile photography However I thought I'd see how the AF worked in these appalling conditions and was surprised that it AFd very quickly on a subject that I couldn't even see through the eyepiece. The result is only a record shot but it demonstrates the low light AF capabilities of the camera.

    This was taken with the 400mm plus 1.4x and is a full frame jpeg from the camera with just a little lifting of the shadows in LR. Substantial noise in the shadow area but at least it focused and got the shot.

    1/50th at f8, ISO 16000.

    It looked a lot darker than this to the naked eye!
