Posted as CR2 on canonrumors is mention of 7D MkIII towards the end of H1/18 ... all very vague at moment but anyone thinking about a body purchase in that category in H1/18 might want to defer the decision a few months.

But XXD cameras tend to have shorter spans between replacements.John

Re: 7D MkIII rumoured around H1/18 ...
Probably not ,the price trend seems to be creeping ever upwards ,in my books it's better to go as far up the pro body spectrum as you can .my next purchase will be into the full frame group .the more I look at photos from the crop sensors the more I realise there shortcomings

Re: 7D MkIII rumoured around H1/18 ...
It was the SNR that let the 7D2 down for me Brian. I had the 7D1 for a few years, and didn't take too much notice of the noise.
When I moved up to the 5D3, is when I discovered what a good high ISO/low noise performance was, and when I compared my 7D images to those I was getting from the 5D3, the difference was very evident.
The only reason that I bought the 7D2 was for the extra apparent reach of the crop sensor, and believing it's high ISO noise performance was going to be better than the Mkl. If it was better, there really wasn't much in it. Hence my disappointment.
I found that ISO 1600 was really as far as I could push it before, to me, the noise became objectionable.
With the 100-400 L Mkll, and 1.4x TC inline, I am limited to a maximum aperture of f/8, and when the light isn't good, I need to up the ISO, and the 5D3, and now the 5D lV are excellent high ISO performers.
When shooting wildlife, with a long lens, at a distance, flash is not an option.
In all other respects, the 7D2 was excellent, and it was only the ISO v noise that was the issue.
