Hi, I have a rebel XTI (400d) that has recently started giving me a error message when shooting outdoors , error 99 shooting is not possible. turn the power switch to off/ on or re-install battery done both of these to no avail.. I have no problem when shooting in doors. Anyone come across this before? Any advice appreciated.

Re: Problem with 400d
Outdoors but not indoors... I wonder if the metering has gone wrong - it sounds like it may be overloading and not providing any sort of meaningful data to the camera in bright light.
Have you tried in manual mode (M)? If it's purely the exposure meter then the camera should fire regardless of the meter reading or lack of it.
Have you tried it outside in low light - eg after sunset?
presumably when it does work the exposures are correct?
Sound like you have a valid excuse for new camera time...Last edited by El Sid; 04-04-2019, 11:35.Nigel

Re: Problem with 400d
Other thing to try, get a pencil eraser and clean the terminals between the lens and the body with it, avoid dropping the rubber bits in either.
