    File Numbering

Hi all, I am after a bit of advice from you knowledgeable gentlemen here about file numbering in camera. I have a 450d and recently went past 10000 images so when I download using the canon software I have another series of picture files numbered from 0001 again so when I store them on my drive I will have 2 images for example IMG_0101, admittedly stored under date name folders . Do you change your file numbers using an external program or are there other options such as the date as part of the file name. I hope I have made myself clear but I fear not

    Re: File Numbering

I personally don't worry about the in camera numbering too much. I store images by year then broken down by category under the year higherarchy. I also add tag words to the images using Lightroom to help find images.

      Re: File Numbering

I save all my images as yyyy-mm-dd_#### where #### represents the image number. I've been through 10k twice and not experienced any problems.

thanks both, I was using the standard Canon zoom browser to download but this time I used another program and did as Woolley does and will try that to see how I get along
