5D Mark II Movie Mode for slow motion/high speed videography

I had the priviledge of using an Olympus iSpeed 3 High speed camera at a commercial shoot on wednesday and the video it can capture has to be seen to be believed.

We filmed an explosion with it and you can literally see the point of detonation, how it explodes (i.e. implodes before explodes).

Most of the footage we captured was around 2,000fps. But I noticed that alot of the new Canon DSLRs that support movie function do offer exceptional fps too.

Anyone tried using the 5D/7D to capture anything like a match igniting, etc or know what the limits are?

    Cheers,
    Dominic

I have always been fascinated by the slo-mo stuff, but in the two years of owning my current camera, I haven't even tried video yet.

Note to self: get off lazy bottom and give it a go!

The video from Canon DSLR's is just fantastic..... This was done on a 7D so the 5D MkII must be at least as good...

Fourth in the unintentional "series", after Sofia, Dublin and San Francisco. This time it's Venice Beach in LA that is the focus. Very different…

        THe 5DII is NOT as good as the 7D for slo-mo video. The 7D captures 720p at 60fps. The 5D cannot capture 720p - Only 1080p at 24fps or 25fps or 640x480 @ 24fps

You need much faster frame rates for slo-mo although the 7D 60fps is very useful.

If you look around the 7D gets a lot of plaudits for that - only issue is it's not FF!
