    Charging new battery

I have just got a new battery for my EOS is there a particular time to charge it for the first time (Timewise) in order to prolong battery life and get the best out of it?
    Thanks

    Re: Charging new battery

For myself when I buy a new battery for my camera I use the Canon provided battery charger and simply charge it until it is showing a full charge. I also try to run the batteries down to between 1/4 and flat before I charge them and also rotate the batteries in use.

I don't think you have a choice with the Canon charger. On mine, when the light is green it's fully charged. If it's a Li-ion battery there should be no issues with memory affect.

One of the worst things you can do to a Li-ion battery is to run it out completely all the time. Full discharges put a lot of strain on the battery, and it's much better practice to do shallow discharges to no lower than 20 percent.

Actually most half way decent Li ion cells will have protection against being run flat as doing so can be very dangerous - they can catch fire. If they have this protection then it is fine (and possibly beneficial) to use the full charge range.

            Oh Lord won't you buy me a 300mm F2.8L (or at a push, a 200-400 F4).
