    R6 Freezing

    Hi,

I have had the R6 since September 2021 and have been enjoying it. I have had the camera freeze on me 3-4 times in that period (screen freezes, buttons don't work) and have had to turn the camera off and on again.

Today I was using it for about 2 hours and it froze at least 6 times. I have the latest firmware update in the camera - (t froze less before the update - probably coincidence)

The battery grip and batteries are all canon and the memory card is a sandisk extreme pro - I am using a Sigma 500 f4 sport lens with a TC.

Has anybody else experienced this with the R6 (R5) or are aware of the cause or fix - the problem has been noted on other forums.

    Any help much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Guy

I haven’t had anything like this with my R6. but have just typed in “Canon R6 freezing “ on Google and come up with DP review, usually quite a reliable indication of others’ meeting with the same problem.
last postings were over a year ago, and folks muted whether it was the memory card or IBIS
I’d be inclined to wonder about your connection the between camera and lens ? Official canon mount or other? Does this happen with RF lenses or just your sigma?
This camera should be under 1 year guarantee if bought from a legitimate dealer, worth taking it back and seeing what they have to say.

        Hi,

        Thanks for the replies.

lunar - The mount used was the official Canon mount. I don't have any RF lenses they are all EF mount. It may well be the use of the Sigma .ens/TC - although I have used it before without these sort of issues.

I purchased from WEX so have also contacted them.

        regards

Agreed with the Canon mount you should have no probs with the Sigma

Glad to hear you used Wex for your purchase. They were brilliant with me when I had a R6 problem , turned out to be a LR issue not the camera so I am sure they will investigate this thoroughly including using a selection of other options in shop to isolate what your problem is. And yes, they understand the word “ intermittent” !

Brian… any reason why you’ve Not updated firmware yet? Just a time thing or have you heard of problems ?

There is a firmware update for the Sigma 500 mm f4 Sport with EF mount.

              Hi Springfieldphoto,

thanks for the comment. I did update the Sigma when I got the R6 - but will have have another look. I used the camera today with the 500 but without the TC - it didn't freeze - wondering if it may be th eTC??

Anyway i will wait for a response from WEX and have a look around about the TC possibly being a cause?

Yes I have had this problem just as you describe it about 5 months ago. I contacted Canon and they suggested I send the camera back to them for assessment. The power supply module was replaced on the main board and all has been well since. the firmware at that time was 1.4.x; it is now 1.5.
