    Image Problems (marks)

Hi - I was hoping someone may be able to help me to identify the slight mark that is in the breaking wave. I am not sure if it is lens or sensor related. It seems to be turning up on most of my images in the same place when that part of the image is light.

Image is a bit small - the mark just left of centre looks like dust on the sensor

Dust is east to check for - it should be visible in other images or you can take a shot of an evenly light surface (blue sky is usually best if you can still find some!) and check the image(s).

When enlarged it looks like a spec of dust to me too.

Take one magnolia wall (all houses have at least one of these)
Focus on a nice clean bit of the wall
          Press the shutter button
Zoom in on the said magnolia wall image
          Find the spot
If you can, chances are it is a dust bunny

Change lenses, if it still happens, it's the camera! Looks like a dust bunny to me too.

            All the best, Mike.

If you're looking for dust stop a lens down as far as it will go (perhaps f22) and shoot the sky on a sunny day or something else with no detail in it and it will be easy to spot.
The important bit is stopping the lens down.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I have tried these and it does look like it is the sensor and either dust or something evil. I am taking it down to my LPCS for a pro clean.

Took it to Canon instead as the Canon service centre is on my way to work. The guys were very freindly and professional and I was happy up until the moment they told me nothing is guaranteed and they don't have a dust free environment. Cross fingers all will be ok when I check it tonight. In hindsight I should have checked it there and then, but was in a hurry to get to work.
