    Forgive my ignorance but ........

What exactly does EOS mean or stand for?
And is it pronounced EEEos, AYEos or E.O.S. ?

I think it stands for Electro-Optical System though by luck Eos was Goddess of Dawn in Greek mythology.

    I pronounce it E O S but I'm probably in the minority.

Dave and Carregwen - thanks for that; I hadn't thought of looking at Wikipedia as Uni always said 'do not use Wikipedia as it can be un-reliable !' That said, the explanations seem obvious once one knows.

Maybe others could now use this thread to ask the questions they were always too shy to ask?

Has anyone actually had dealings with this http://www.elsso.com/category.php?id=60

It all looks far too good to be true so perhaps it is?

              Hello John,

Just had a look at that website, i emailed them asking what the cost would be for a 1ds mk3 plus shipping and they mailed back saying 800 euro's. I'm like yourself and find it hard to believe; i would love to hear from anyone who has had any dealing with them.

              Regards
              Steve

Back in 1920's American when mail order catalogues got going, one of them quoted a 'sewing machine' for sale for a few dollars. When the punters took delivery they discovered a needle and thread!

I'm not sure what kind of 'camera' you will get for 800 Euros...

Something similar happened in South Africa in the late 70s. People bought a calculator from a company with a name like Hi Tech SA (can't remember the exact name), and an abacus was delivered. The beauty of the scam was that there was a money back guarantee if you weren't 100% satisfied with the product. People sent the abacuses back and received a cheque for the full amount from a company with a name like Gay & Lesbian Dom SA. With a lot of South Africans being quite conservative back then, many just didn't bother cashing the cheque because they were too shy or embarrassed.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

                    OK so here's the question:

If money was of no great importance and the wish is to photograph anything and everything but be able to produce at A3 and still get crisp results, which EOS DSLR is going to be best?

I realise that a good lens is essential but assuming that is in place what is the answer?

I've seen that some say Megapixels are not important but I don't quite understand the reasoning.

I've also seen that some swear by Full frame but others prefer the times 1.6 but it seems to be relative to the type of photography that is preferred so what if there is no particular specialisation?

Does anyone have the definitive answer or know of a publication that gives it in simple layman terms?

Look forward to some clarification if possible please.

                    John

                      Here's another one for you.

What does the S in 1ds Mk3 stand for ?

I've emailed canon and I have the official answer BTW.

I would have thought that the larger the format, the better the quality - as it was ( is ) with 35mm, medium format, large format/sheet film.
Now, if only a f/f was available for £1000.00 or less, I would go into debt to buy one; and Canon would be selling more F/F lenses too!
