Yongnuo YN-565EX E-TTL for Canon 580EX II

Whilst scrolling through Ebay I have come across this flash gun which is identical to the Canon 580 EX II- shape, size,button layout at the back, etc. I am wondering how good this is at £99. There is also a TTL model at £199. Since I am getting more involved with flash photography, I thought of ungrading my Canon 430EX for a more powerful unit which has more power to work through a diffuser- i.e to give sufficient light even with a diffuser attached.

I would be happy to hear from members who have bought these units.

Just thought I'd mention that I have scrolled through the previous threads/comments on this flash and am happy. I will buy it provided I want to know how powerful is it to use with a diffuser, and without making any compensation as with my 430EX.For example will it be powerful enough ,with the diffuser,without increasing the power via compensation) to take say the sanctuary and altar from the middle of the church?

Nat, I looked at the Yongnuo 565 and 568's and ended up getting a Canon 600.

After my negative experience with the Nissin Di866 II, which is supposed to be a better flash than the Yongnuo units, and the incompatibility between the 60D and the Yongnuo 568, I decided that for reliability, performance, and longlife I should bite the bullet and purchase a marque product. I bought from One Stop Digital (in HK) and paid "only" £363, ordered Friday and arrived Tuesday.

the 565 has a higher GN than the 580. all it doesn't have is the high speed shutter sync (which the 568 has). I have 2x 565's and a 568, and no problems so far on my 7d.

Thank you for your comments. In the end, I acquired a Canon 580EX and quite happy with it as it WILL BE compatible with both Canon bodies. I also have got the Canon 430EX. So now I can use one as the "slave"!
