Advice on purchase of first flashgun please.

    Hi Everyone

I'm looking to purchase my first flashgun and have found the one in the link below. I would like to add a further two flashguns at some point in the future so that I could use them together to get some nice still lifes and also maybe some of those fantastic water drop shots I keep seeing on here.

Can anyone tell me if this would be a good purchase it is about my limit price wise for now. I will mainly be using it for portraits of the family to start with

I have a YN-565 ex and pleased with it, the only draw back is not having HSS, but it is as good as Canon 580 EXII, but 1/3rd price when i bought it last year.

Paul in simple term, most flash only sync up to shutter speed of 1/200 - 1/250. If you want to use flash photography above this shutter speed you will need a flash with HSS.

Okay thanks I think that for what I want to use it for I will get away without the HSS. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

              Hi Andy
Yeah I got the one that is in my OP and I have to say I'm quite impressed however as it is my first I have nothing to compare it to. I was expecting it to come in bubble wrap but it came in a professional box and in a velvet drawstring bag for when it is in your camera bag.

So far I have only taken a couple of test shots with it and the flash doesn't seem as harsh as the built in flash. It has a built in diffuser which you pull out and it folds down over the flash head. I have also tried it as a slave with my built in flash triggering it and it worked well.

I can recommend it as a first flashgun.
