Flash gun for a Canon 450D

I bought a Canon 450D just before Christmas as I wanted to get better quality pictures. However I did not realise that the flash on this camera was only basic.
I had to retire early due to ill health and am doing photography as a hobby so can't really afford to spend a lot on an expensive flash gun and wondered if anyone could suggest a low budget flash gun which will get me started.
My problem is that I don't really know what there is on the market and the shops only sell the high priced items

If you call round Jessops or any camera shop in your area,they will fix you up. I use a Canon 430EX which is very good. don't know what the current price is. You should also look at Ebay, where you can buy a flash at a very decent price.
