    Jessops Flash

    Howdy,

I have borrowed a Jessops 320AFC from my old man to try out a bit of flash photography.
I have not fitted it onto the camera yet as i am not sure it is compatible with my 1000d, he used it on an old Canon film SLR - I think it was a EOS300.
Anyway, does anyone on here if it is compatiblke and if so somewhere I can get a bit of guidance on setting it for diffeent conditions......

    Cheers,
    Gary

    Re: Jessops Flash

    Hi Gary,
Sorry about the 'no answer situation', I haven't a clue about that flash.
Maybe one for Google, if it does work, it won't have any of the features we take for granted on current flashes.
0lder canon flashguns work on newer eos with less features/flashmetering innovtions. not sure about 3rd party flashguns.

I have checked here for you but unfortunately it has Jessops flashes other than yours listed, both of which it says don't use. Given that I would be very wary about using it BUT it is your choice.

From memory ............ most older flashes needed a higher voltage to trigger the unit, so either it didn't work, or it fried the electronics in the camera body.

        Best leave well alone.

Thanks for the advice folks...... I was a bit wary of using it as it was originally bought for a film SLR.... I will not risk it and I'll wait until I can get a flash specifically for my 1000d, I dont want to blow my camera.

          Thanks again,
          Gaz

Any flash with 'EX' in it will be fine. Budget savers might be second hand 420EX for example at less than £100

            For example http://www.mpbphotographic.co.uk/use...ted-flashguns/

I would stay clear of those starting with 2 as they are hardly more powerful than the pop up flash

There's other options than just Canon flashes depending on what you are wanting to spend. Metz, Sigma & Dissin do some decent flash units too.

Keep the jessops flash though - Does it fire in slave mode? Is so you could use it off camera in M with the new flash you buy
