Re: f2.8 lenses announced ... 24L, 28L and 24-70L Mark2
Surprised that there's no IS with the new 24-70mm but more surprised to find IS on the 2 new primes.
The 24mm and 28mm lenses are not "L" designated.
I am shocked at the prices tags too.
24-70mm f/2.8L II = £2299.00
24mm f/2.8 IS = £749.00
28mm f/2.8 IS = £729.00
Wow! (as I fall off my seat)Last edited by Hereford_EOS2; 07-02-2012, 18:12.

Would have thought IS would be 0n the new 24-70mm then we could say that is why it is costing £2299.00 to buy.https://www.flickr.com/photos/fspimages

Re: f2.8 lenses announced ... 24L, 28L and 24-70L Mark2
I found this all a bit dissapointing.
I want short primes to be faster than 2.8 really.
Faster & sharper is the payback for lack of zoom in my book.
As for the 24-70 2.8 I didn't expect IS, but I'm not tempted at that price just now.

Curious choices, especially at the price. I'm not sure I do want short primes to be faster than 2.8, but I'm not sure I need IS on them either at that focal length. Unless they're going for long exposures without a tripod. Pleased to see they've made the 24-70 a fair bit lighter, and you'll now travel even lighter if you include your wallet... Even at 75% that's a substantial investment and it's really moving out of the enthusiast range.Canon EOS7D mkII+BG-E16, Canon EOS 7D+BG-E7, Canon EF-S 10-22 f/3.5-4.5, Tamron Di-II 17-50 f2.8, Canon EF 24-105 f/4L IS, Canon EF 70-200 f/4L, Sigma 30mm f1.4 DC HSM 'Art', Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM, Sigma 1.4x DG, Canon Speedlight 430EX II (x2)

I think the prices are getting into the realms of "silly money". It might be worthwhile for professionals to buy these lenses but for keen hobby photographers like myself, it is beyond my pockets. Also buying these lenses do not guarantee you good photographs.Canon 6D; Canon 760D;Canon G15;Canon 40mm f2.8(Pancake);Canon 50mm f1.8(ii); Canon 17mm-40mm f4L;Canon EF-S 10-18mm f4.5-5.6 IS STM;Canon EF-S 55-250mm f4-5.6 STM lens;Canon 24mm-105mmf4L IS;Canon 70-300mm f4-f5.6 L IS USM;Kenko 1.4x HD TC;Canon 430EX ii flash;Giottos tripod;Manfretto monopod;Cokin P filters + bits and pieces!

I think I'll be waiting until I see the results of the Tamron 24-70 2.8 VC. I'm sure it'll be around half the price of the new Canon version and if the optics are anywhere near as good I can see it becoming a best seller and the Canon Version 2 will just slink away to ignominy. It's just too much for a lens with only slightly better performance than the old one.
