I like the idea of all the f/2.8 glass, unfortunately my bank account doesn't! £5k for the three zooms is just too much to stomach when the equivilent f/4's can be had for a paltry £2k

Now a modern f/2.8L 20mm with stellar performance might tempt me ;-) But I suspect given Canon's recent pricing it'll be out of range to justify.

I met someone the other day who let me try the much maligned ef 20mm 2.8 usm, despite the glass being dirty, I took three test shots, I was pretty impressed. Lightweight and fast AF.

People see stuff like “soft in corners - wide open” - and assume it’s “bad or problem lens“. IMHO This depends on the application. When I take a shot of a group of people I always allow space around them - this is simply because not every wants a print based on the 3:2 aspect ratio, the corner IQ is irrelevant.

Sorry for drifting off topic :-))

Drift away Trev ... it's always valuable to have real experience of real lenses. It's like my 17-40L 'El Marmite' and you wonder why some lenses get slagged off. I do generally try real lenses before I buy and take reviews with a pinch of NaCl ;-)

Depending on the rip off uk price tag the EF35mm F2 IS might just be the one to replace my 50mm f1.8 mk1, which after all these years is still sharp bright but just that little bit noisy
