The word photography derives from the Greek φωτός (phōtos), genitive of φῶς (phōs), "light" and γραφή (graphé)

        The answer is .................. No.

The 50mm f/1.4 uses the ES-71 (II) lens hood whilst the 50mm f/1.8 uses the ES-62 lens hood.
One will not fit the other as the lens diameters are different.

          Re: Lens hood question

Depends if you mean Canon EF lenses or 3rd party/older Canon.
The Canon EF 50mm f1.4 has a very handy 58mm thread (as it's used a fair bit on other lenses).
          The Sigma 50mm f1.4 is the even-more-useful 77mm
The Zeiss 50mm f1.4 is 58mm like the Canon.
The Canon EF 50mm f1.8 II is 52mm, as was the mk I

So basically if you have a EF Canon 50mm f1.8 you are out of luck.

Oh, and when I say handy I mean for filters, for lens hoods you don't want to mess about with different focal length lenses.

Finally, if you shoot an APS camera the lens hood is less effective, but still of some use. Some lenses have a different hood or a hood adapter to help with APS.
