Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 IS USM Lens

Info wanted please
I have just purchased a used Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 IS USM Lens in mint condition though I did not get the instruction manual with it and was wondering if someone could tell me how to use the dual image stabilization and explain why it has two stabilizers, I did not know that it had two.

A very wise choice of lens I have had one since the beginning of this year. The reason for two settings is. Number 1 is for normal pictures it helps stabilize up and down movement and 2 is for panning from for example left to right, moving subjects.

(BTW I find it quite annoying that the Canon USA site is easier to find stuff than the Euro sites, and in some cases has stuff, like MTF charts, that I've never found on this side of the pond...)
