Im hoping one day to upgrade to full frame so, thinking ahead when buying lenses, I want ones that will work on full frame as well as crop sensor. I feel I should know the answer to this but how do I tell which lenses to buy that will be future proof. I have 2 L series lenses at the moment 100-400 and 100 macro, which I hope will work with full sensor but how do you know which is which. Thanks in advance from a thicky.........

Re: Full frame upgrade
EF Lenses are for Full Frame, but also fit crops and EF-S are designed for cropped frame cameras, they won't fit a Full frame.Canon EOS 5D Mark III, EF 135mm F/2 L, EF 16-35mm F/4 L, EF 50mm f/1.8, EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, EF 28mm f/2.8

Re: Full frame upgrade
Canon full-frame cameras use Canon EF lenses (not EF-S lenses), if looking at 3rd party then Sigma have DG lenses for full-frame and not the DC lenses.
So any Canon EF or Sigma DG lenses will all fit Canon full-frame cameras and also work on any Canon APS-C (crop) camera.Canon EOS R6 Mark II, Canon RF 100-500mm f4.5-7.1L, Canon RF 24-105mm f4L

Re: Full frame upgrade
Is full frame upgrade really the way to go? I was thinking the same but thought carefully about it, especially as I have an excellant ef-s lens that would not be FF compatible and would be hard to replace on a FF. In the end I decided to look at investing the money in an ultra wide angle lens (for landscapes) so am looking at the 10-22 to complete my collection of lenses. I thought this would be a better investment than spending a lot of cash on FF. I'm very much a beginner so am not offering advice as I'm not qualified to - I'm just throwing the question out there because I looked at it myself.
This article was an interesting read (of course I'm not suggesting you rely on opinion from one article either).

Re: Full frame upgrade
A good article and I applaud any argument to make people better photographers rather than better equipment collectors.
He had logic supporting his views comparing the 5D MKII against the 7D, but it doesn't stack up so well against against the 5D MKIII and the 6D. But hey, that's just my opinion.Colin

Re: Full frame upgrade
I agree a good article and a lot of logic supporting the view it is the photographer that makes the picture not necessaraly the equipment and yes I agree with his arguements comparing the 5D MKii and the 7D but owning a 5D MKiii I would question some of those points.
It does come down to what you want to do and you can do just about everything with a crop sensor and as most of your lenses are for crop or FF bodies and of good quality i would tend to stick with that format.

Re: Full frame upgrade
I'm hoping to go FF at some point in the future, I have a 600D and I'm thinking of a used 5D MK II, once I've saved enough pennies. My interest is landscapes, that should be a reasonable move shouldn't it?Canon EOS 5D Mark III, EF 135mm F/2 L, EF 16-35mm F/4 L, EF 50mm f/1.8, EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, EF 28mm f/2.8
