    Canon Converter x2 MK III

Had the chance to try out my new converter on Sunday a Canon x2 MK III,Really bought this for the Cricket season but rained on Sat so stayed at home,Better weather on Sunday morning so had the chance cover some football and couldn't resist grabbing a few shots with the extender attached to my 300mm.I'm not suggesting people shoot football at 600mm as far to bigger focal length, hopefully cover some cricket next week weather permitting but some examples below.

    All taken with Eos 1D MKIII + EF300mm + x2 converter (= 600mm f5.6)

    #1 600mm, f5.6, iso400, shutter 1/2000

Very good Paul. I am getting interested in the Canon 2X iii as well- will give me extra reach. I like the colours and very sharp details.

      Hi Nathaniel
You'll have to double check your Lenses as the x2 converter will only really work best with f2.8 lenses eg 200 f2.8, 70-200f2.8,300 f2.8, your lenses at f4, the 70-200f4 and your 300f4 stick to the x1.4 converter.

        Lovely shots.

I also have the 2xIII and use it with my 70-200 F2.8L IS II. Sometimes I find the 400mm FL a bit limiting so I'm feeling quite jealous right now :)

I'm also thinking about getting the 1.4x too because this gives me a 98-280 which I think would have been perfect on a recent trip to the zoo and of course I only have to drop down to f4 rather than f5.6 with that so I would think this combination would be great for sports photography too.

              Hi Riggers
I have the sigma 1.4x but never really think it gives me that much extra reach, were as using the 2x its like having a new lens in the bag,the down side is you do need good light and a steady hand (images above are hand held)but as for sharpness and color there's nothing to worry about its as good as using the 300mm, though i did have a little hunting from the focusing at times,As mentioned earlier i didn't intend to shoot football with this converter (just had to have a play) its really for the cricket season where the play will be a little slower and i can predict were the action is going to be,and may even use a tripod during the game this time, good or bad I'll upload them to the site for all to see.

Thanks Paul, for your timely advice. I am sticking to the f4 lenses as going to f2.8, apart from the price, is on the heavier side for me,nowadays.
I will certainly investigate the compatibiity of the 2x with my 300mm f4lens.
