200mm to 400mm F4 len pricing policy

This lens has just been announced as coming to market, why are Canon taking advantage, nay taking the P@ss and charging $11999 in the US but £11999 in the UK , that's a difference of over £4500 .
I know that they expect the pros will not bother with the cost but why do Canon appear to abuse the UK public ?

You do have to take into account the fact that in the UK we pay 20% VAT which accounts for £2k of the difference whereas there's no national sales tax in the USA. £10k would seem a fairer price though.

The price will drop a bit when it actually gets released. The 500f4 mk2 was £9000 when it first started to appear for pre-order... You can now get it for £7500ish.
I agree its still not fair and we'll never get stuff as cheap as the USA though.

I wouldn't mind the lens... But I'm more interested in the 100-400 replacement.

I may have sold a few bits and paid around £2500 for it but nearly 12k . . . . . that is taking the p**s to the max.

more than twice the price of the Nikon ... wow!
