New 200 - 400mm.

I had a good play with one of these beauties today and it is an awesome piece of kit, but at a price.

I had a long conversation with the Canon people about the price and although they were very kind in their responses, it came down to "it is what it is". For the UK, equipment goes through Europe in Euros and then to the UK in Stirling, so we get a bit of a double whammy.

I pointed out that a nice long weekend in New York, take in the sights, visit B&H, then back home and I end up with a nice mini break, a new 200 - 400mm and nearly £4 grand left in my pocket and because it is a L series lens, it has full international warranty ............. they didn't fault my logic!

Yep big difference in price

£7840 in the USA at today's exchange rate. Compared to £11999 here in the UK..... Even if you add 20% VAT onto the USA price it is still only £9408.... This country just rips us off at every turn or is it Canon UK inflating the price as well ????

I should have said Colin what you really need to do is book your visit to Boston and have B&H ship it to your hotel hat way you then save the 7% NYC sales tax, it worked every time for me.

Guess MrsC's new Mini JCW Roadster comes first ;-) Have have similar problems !

My Pro dealer has Canon UK with that nice lens on the 5th ... so it would be rude not to visit ... and have a play ;-)

I played with one when Canon visited Fixation, it's heavier than I was expecting. (I was mostly there to do a firmware update on one of my lenses, as I don't have a firmware update capable body, i.e. 1Dx, 5DmkIII or 650D.)
