Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD Lens

Has anyone had any hands on experience with the new Tamron 150-600 lens?
I've been reading the reviews and l think looks a great bit of kit.

I am asking as am looking to add to my lens collection over the next couple of months and hoping to have a go at BIF.

    I am also considering a canon 300mm f4 and a 400mm f5.6.

There's a huge thread on it on the POTN forum. Loads of pictures from it. I think there's some folk who can use any lens and get great results out of them, and then there's some folk who buy the lens thinking it's going to solve all their troubles. Some great examples of stuff on that thread, however, there's some really bad ones too. Most people say the focus is a little slow. Not seen any birds in flight shots, it's all static perched stuff so maybe the AF isn't as fast. At f/6.3 it's going to need either great ISO capabilities or a really sunny day.

I struggle with f/5.6 and just need to put the camera away when the clouds come out. The weight of the 400mm 5.6L is great though. Perfect balance for me.

At f 6.3 it is quite a "slow" lens which is going to need good light to be able to get the best out of it. Also it is a zoom which unless you have the new Canon 200-400 is never going to be as good as a prime, so I would go for either the 400 f5.6 or as i have, the 300f4 together with a 1.4 converter

I thinks it all boils down to the f6.3, if you lived in Spain or some were very sunny you could get away with it, Does has a good zoom range though and would be good for wildlife but here in the UK i think your going to struggle with our overcast dull weather will spend more time in your camera bag than on the end of your camera?(sorry just my thoughts always glad to be proved wrong though)

          Thanks Paul, Stan & Paul.

I was thinking the same in that it would need good light, so it looks like I'll be tossing a coin on the other 2.

Or hopefully a lotto win for the 200 to 400
