Re: Travel lens for Canon 6D

I'd agree the 24-105 is the one to take, you can always crop down to the centre 3000x2000 pixels to get about a 200mm equiv long end. A 35mm f2 IS might be an idea for evening photography, giving 4x the shutter speed (plus IS if you want to shoot any video), it isn't that great wide-open though. The Sigma 35/1.4 is a lot better optically, but getting a bit big and heavy (660g).

Didn't Scott Kelby suggest that when you're photographing your travels (as opposed to travelling to photograph something), particularly with your family, a superzoom is all you need?

So long as you accept the images will be soft when viewed at 1:1, you can bask in the lightweight and always-ready nature of the superzoom, the ability to zoom-in on that exotic bird whilst capturing a wide-angle landscape without faffing with a lens change isn't to be sniffed-at, and best of all your family won't raise their eyebrows when you set out with a rucksack full of camera gear with no room for the water, sandwiches, and beach supplies

Although like Colin says I don't see the point in putting this on your 6D. I'd really consider selling up and looking at a CSC like a Fuji X Pro1 or X T1 or similar from Olympus or Panasonic.

The 6D being FF requires good glass, especially at the edge of the frame where cr*p glass on an APS sensor can get away with it, as it effectively doesn't use the edge.
I agree with Colin. I suspect that if you get the Tamron you will always be comparing it to your 70-200, for which it probably won't be a match. Your 1.4x would give you an effective 280mm anyway, and the short end is taken care of with your 24-105.
So why duplicate your focal lengths with inferior glass, with inferior results, for the sake of a few pounds?
The Canon 28-300L is an absolute monster, and slow to boot, so that would probably rule that one out for you.
You see determined to spend some money, so maybe a CSC is the way forward, as Wayne suggests? I use the Lumix system with good results, as long as you accept its limitations.
Alternatively, the Fuji X100s has been cited as the ideal travel camera in many forums. I have an X100 and as long as you accept its 35mm equivalent fixed-focal length (which can actually be quite liberating), it produces images as good as my EOS.
          Decisions, decisions... ;)

Thanks good folk. I will think on this for a while before I rush into anything. I have no intention of selling any of my present kit, which is about the absolute minimum for me and my weight issues. I also enjoy using my present kit as much as possible.

I may go in for the super zoom but I really don't like to lens "poking out" when I use the tele aspect. i much prefer the internal focussing where there is no change to the lens barrel when I go from say 70-200mm.

Re: Dr.Jon's cropping suggestion, I already do that with my70-200mm +1.4TC and I don't like it very much. This makes me think of a another crop body for BIF and hols with say an 18mm-250mm Sigma or similar lens.

I will wait and see what the Taxman refunds after 5th April?

Not to worry Paul. I might still buy this lens if I do buy a second, crop, body. Is this lens better than the Sigma offerings covering a similar range?
