    Hello Anthony;

    I assume you mean 24-105, rather than 24-108!

    Do you mean the numbers in the 'window'? If so, they are the focal distances...

    The '8' on its side is 'infinity'... and the red numbers below are the infinity mark at the various lens focal-lengths...

    Does that answer your question, or have I missed something here?

        Re: 24-108 mm

        I was thinking of the Auto - manual focus, IS on - off, IS 1 or 2.

        If that is the case:

        AF - MF: Choice of auto focus or manual focus.

        IS On - Off: Image stabilisation on most of the time, especially for low shutter speeds, but can be switched off when on a tripod. The 24 - 105mm does sense when it is on a tripod, but it is still good practice to switch it off.

        IS 1 - 2: Image stabilisation is switched to "1" for normal use, when the Gyro's act on both axis and to position "2" when you are panning in one direction and don't wish for the IS to overcompensate, so only one Gyro will be active.

        I think between me and Canon Fodder, we must have just about covered everything, all that's left is the serial number and "Made in Japan"!

          The 24-105 has 'Stabiliser On Off' No options for 1 and 2

              That's what comes of a faulty memory Brian. Although I did play with one when they first came out, I stuck with my 24 - 70mm f2.8. All my other IS lenses have both positions.

              Thank you for correcting me.

                  Don't bother! The scale is so small - it's next to useless for anything meaningful!

                  Just use AF or manually focus where you want using the viewfinder or 'live view'...
