Thanks all for your comments. I just got the lenses last night so I put it on the SL1 (100D) and after work this morning I took it out for a test drive. Here are the results
1/640 sec @ f/6.3, ISO 100 @ 400mm
1/640 sec @ f/6.3, ISO 640 @ 390mm
1/640 @ f/5.6, ISO 500 @ 390mm
1/640 @ f/5.6, ISO 320 @ 390mm

Sorry Paul, but it's snowing and raining here so the cows are a bit dirty today. As for the softness, they look sharp in LR so it might be caused from the upload to Photobucket.

One of my favourite lenses
The push/pull isn't everyones cup of tea but you get used to it.
I've heard that it also sucks in dust - again I haven't experienced this at all

Well done Tom. How do you find the balance of the lens (hand holding with your 100D? Hi Nat. I didn't find a problem with the palace as I tend to hold the lenses using the tripod holder on the lenses so most of the weight is balanced on the tripod holder.
