    f 2.8 24mm-70mm or 28mm-75mm- Sigma or Tamron?

As I take a lot of low light pictures, I am now wondering whether I should go in for the Sigma or Tamron f2.8 24-70 or 28-75mm lens. I have to date used my Canon 24-105 f4 lens for my low light photography but I would like to go in for an f2.8lens. I am unable to afford the Canon lens due to it's price. I also would not like to replace the Canon 24-105 lens due to the extra reach with the Canon lens. I have checked and found that I take most of my low light photos in church and at concert halls at a distance of 30mm - 60mm/68mm. I have also checked and found that the lenses 28-75mm are much cheaper than the 24-70mm lens and also give a 5mm extra reach. I am at the moment undecided which one would serve me best and would appreciate members comments to help me decide.

    Many thanks

    Nat

Does it have to be a zoom? Does it have to be f/2.8?

You might like to look at this one http://www.photozone.de/canon_eos_ff...igma35f14eosff ... although at nearly 700g you may discount it.

Remember too (I'm sure you have) that DoF becomes a (more significant) factor to take into account ... more so when you move from f/4 to f/2.8.

Thanks MX5 for your comments. Yes, it has to be a zoom to give me the flexibility to move from close to distance without changing lenses. Yes, I am aware of the weight of these lenses but as it is only for short periods of time, I am quite happy with the weight angle. I might also mention that with regard to weight the 28-75mm lenses are around 500gr.I am also looking for f2.8 constant throughout the zoom length. I have the Canon 50mm f1.8 prime as well but I find that I don't have the flexibility of a zoom with this lens.

I also thought fast fixed primes would be the answer to low light, but when shooting a concert recently my 50mm was useless, as I couldn't move around enough, so had resort to my 24-70mm for the flexibility, although had to tune up the ISO.

I have the Tamron 28-75 and hVe posted images here on the forum. I even used it for a wedding and have no complaints about it's image quality.

Yes Nat, zooms are very convenient bits of kit. But as you like the long end of your 24-105mm f/4.0, how about using the 100mm f/2.0? I use this lens and it's a cracker! With just your 50mm and the 100mm - both very light, you have just the one lens change to deal with for your church interior shots.
