My new lens arrived today, it being a replacement for my old non image stabilised version.
Some what chunkier, and heavier than its predecessor, due to being optically stabilsed, but just as solidly built, with a quality feel about it.
I was somewhat surprised at the length of the box, it being twice the length of the box that my old non OS version came in.
However, all was revealed when I opened it. The zip-up carry case was at least half as long again, as it needed to be, to accommodate the lens, with the bottom of the case being packed with two substantial cushions, which are removable.
The case would actually accommodate a reasonable sized telephoto zoom lens.
I have wonder if this is Sigma's attempt to provide a 'one size fits many' lens case, in order reduce the variety of custom size cases they have previously supplied.
Another new feature is the provision of an APS-C lens hood adapter, which attaches the inner end of the supplied full-frame lens hood. This makes the lens hood twice the length. Not a issue for me, as I am using a full-frame camera.
Other than attaching it to the camera, to check that the AF (quick and quiet) and OS are working, I have yet to take any test shots, as it's pouring of rain outside.
However, if the image quality is as good as its non-OS predecessor, I will be more that happy.
