Lens Hood for 100-400L IS Mark 2

Has anyone else stumbled on the price of the dedicated 'new' lens hood for the Mk.2? Circa £51.00 depending upon where you source it (in the UK).
Does anyone know for certain if the lens hood for the original 100-400L IS will also fit and work with the Mk.2?
I cannot see how Canon can justify a price increase of circa 100% just for a little window for your 'pinky' to rotate a polarising filter!

Doesn't the lens come supplied with the appropriate hood.
Looking at B&H Photo in New York (their listing includes a what's in the box section) they suggest it does ?

yep and its a big one! - Thing is if you look at most of the prices of large hoods now ( from Canon) they are all around the £40-£60 range

If you have a look in the EOS Shop there are reasonably priced lens hoods. Whether the old 100-400mm Mk I will fit I don't know - both lenses take a 77mm filter. Worth a phone call, perhaps.

Oouch ...... but I suppose Canon assume if your going to pay 10k for a lens £500 is nothing for a new hood

Thanks guys, I hadn't found the references to the hood being included in the box! That will save a bob or two!

it is - All of the L lenses I've purchased have come with hoods, other than the 11-24 as thats fixed in place ..I'd be surprised if any don't get shipped with a hood

Your lens hood is cheap, David - to replace mine it's nearly £650!

Opened a parcel last night - inside was my new EF100-400L IS II lens - complete with lens hood!
Now to enjoy playing with it and getting used to it.
First impression is the bulk and weight of the ensemble with my 5D II body, but hopefully familiarity will soon dispel any fears on those scores.

Hi All,

I know this is slightly off topic, but got my new 100-400mm MkII last week and I think the picture IQ is superb. It's a country mile in front of the old 100-400mil lens.

Back on topic - the MkI lens hood will fit the MKII - no problem.
