    Sigma 150-600 C

Quick outing to local duck pond to test the new lens.

Weather not too good, a bit overcast so this shot is handheld at ISO800, 600mm, f8, 1/250 on 5D3. No post processing

Lens is quite a lump. IS is really effective, managed to get acceptably sharp image at 600mm and 1/15 which isn't bad for bit of an oldster with none to steady hands. Build quality is really good, Sport version must be really impressive. AF seems pretty quick in my very brief test. Hope to give it a more through test when I go on holiday later this month.

On my 5D3 the lens seems well balanced. Quite pleased with the results.

      Not too shabby is it

As I found today, the IS works really badly if it's turned off So that was a bucketload of shots of a flock of godwits that nearly all had bad massively bad camera shake. Either that or the switch is too easy to move so beware...

Something to be aware of, thanks Andy. On the Tamron 70-300 I have its very easy to move the switch. Thought switch on Sigma looked quite well recessed.

Think this lens either contemporary or sport is quite a bargain.

The switches on the Sport model are on the left side and because of the way I carried it, on my right, the settings were always being changed. I now carry it on my left. I usually use a higher shutter speed for birds so rarely use IS but setting it with the USB Dock to give greater stabilisation through the viewfinder can be very helpful for positioning the small single AF point with small birds.

I carry mine on my right and have had incidents of switches moving. So may have to switch to the left as well. Thanks for the tip.

Thought about the Sports version but decided didn't need weather proofing or the extra weight.

Reading all the reviews it's amazing how closely the two versions perform. Price wasn't a major concern but managed to pick mine up for £759 which makes it more of a good buy.
