    Sigma lenses and convertors

Since I have got myself a Sigma 100-300mm DL lens more as a stop gap, I looked at the possibility of 1.4x convertors & looking at the reviews and comments (viewed them after entering details in Google), I find that not all convertors including Kenko will operate with it. I note that some folk have found that the convertors have not only screwed up th lens but also their camera as well, resulting in expensive repairs. Therefore it is very important to check the compatibility of the convertors with the lens and the Camera.

I do not know whether other members have any contrary views/experiences to what I have read.

    Re: Sigma lenses and convertors

Can't see them damaging either camera or lens nat ,not working maybe but that's usually due to mis- match problems .i.e the latest sigma t.c had initial problems which I believe have now been sorted ,looking at the price of the latest kenko HD 1.4 tc from the eos shop makes it a possible buy in the new year .
A lot of problems I read about online are from newbies trying to get extra reach on the cheap and not knowing/ realising it can't be done .read the f8 compatibility chart in the latest edition of our mag

        Re: Sigma lenses and convertors

Thanks for your comments Jeff and FSP. I have got the latest 1.4 kenkoHD convertor and their compatibility chart does not show the Sigma 100-300mm as being compatible with it. I am rather careful about what I attach to my lenses and also the camera as such. I don't mind buying say a DG Kenko convertor for use with the Sigma 100-300 lens as they don't cost much but I would like to check the compatibility first. Any pointers will be much appreciated.

          Re: Sigma lenses and convertors

nat of cause it won't show as being compatible ,that lens was first sold around the time noah hammered the last nail into the ark .same as that cheap tamron zoom i recently purchased only to be used in dire emergencies.

and both lenses first produced to be compatible with mainly film camera but also the NEWLY developed digital thingmebobs that would never ever replace film .

I got in touch with Sigma and the only 1.4x teleconvertor they recommend is the Sigma 1.4x APO EX DG. This will auto focus with the 6D & the 100D also with the Sigma 100-300mm lens.
