Just over a month ago, I had a very unfortunate 'accident' with my EF500 and 7D2 during which they ( and me ) were engulfed by a freak wave. After sending them to an authorised Canon repairer, it was no surprise that they were both written off . The 500 still focuses - albeit it intermittently - even with the switch on manual.
What I'm wondering is, would it be possible to blank off one (or more) of the contacts to the camera so that the camera doesn't try and communicate with the lens and in doing so, I can use the lens in manual focus mode. I did ask the repairers about this but they ( understandably) were reluctant to suggest anything. However, I have no idea which of the contacts is for fouccusing. Replacing it with a new 500 mkii is out of the question at the moment, so any suggestions would be much appreciated. Cheers
