    2x or not to 2x

I tried to get some shots with and without the 2x extender on the RF100-500. The Blue Tit was good enough to pose on the same branch of the tree.....the first is without the extender and measures 1415x943 and the second with the extender is 2852x1883

I shot both at ISO3200 but f8 without the extender and f14 with the extender

I've read that several people prefer to crop in and avoid using an extender....but there is more detail with it than without it.

My conclusion is that its worth trying to get the shot if an opportunity presents itself while not prepared with the extender, but to use the extender where possible

Seems to be slightly less definition with the extender but still totally acceptable.

Two good shots Brian, although I got extenders never bother to use them.

I use the extenders with my 100-400 lens, I cannot handle carrying the 500mm prime on the front of the C100 body, I reckon the 2x softens the image, but the 1.4 seems to produce good shots for me, the 1.4 is pretty much always on the lens these days.
