    digital to 35mm conversion.

I'm confused! I have a newish 18-55mm(which you may have read about in another thread) and an old 28-80mm 35mm lens which I understood to be equivalents(multiply the digital by 1.5 approx is what I read). However, I thought I would compare them optically but on doing the test shots it was obvious they were far from equivalent. I have to put the digital lens at approx 28mm to get the same field of view as the old 28mm which shouldn't be the case at all as far as I understand it.
    Any comments?

ps: optically, the old lens won hands down!

    Re: digital to 35mm conversion.

Lens are always quoted for their focal length regardless of which body they are attached to.

Therefore comparing the 18-55 and the 28-80 the picture will be the same in the 28-55 ranges on both lens

However the 'crop factor' (1.6 for Canon APS-C bodies) means that both lens will appear the same as 80mm lens when focal length is set to 50mm compared to the same lens mounted on a full frame body.
